bbPress Forum Moderator

Not many of you know this, but I really spend a great deal of my spare time working with the communities of the software programs that I use for my websites. From 2002 until 2005, I used NucleusCMS as my first choice for my blog software and phpBB as my forum software. I really used Nucleus for everything that I did on the web and became a forum moderator to assist in the helping of users of that program in their support forums. It was a good time and Nucleus is a great software package.

In 2005, I started to try other blogging and forum software packages including MovableType, Expression Engine and Punbb. They are all great software packages, but they didn’t quite fit what I was hoping for as the package is only part of it. The support and userbase is the other. I stayed with Nucleus.

It wasn’t until the summer of 2005 that I started running my personal journal (private blog) with Wordpress to test it out. I was so taken back by such a great software package! It is the easiest package to use and modify with plugins and presentation themes! With Nucleus, I found myself sometimes having to do core hacks to accomplish some of the things I needed done. This is not the case in Wordpress because I have yet to not find a plugin for every thing I needed!

Since then, I gradually put more and more sites into Wordpress and transferred existing sites into it as well. It wasn’t until 4 weeks ago that I officially had every single blog I use (20 in total) into Wordpress. I can’t seem to think of one reason why this shouldn’t be the case because even since my first install, it just keeps getting better!

A month ago, I came across bbPress, a product created out of the developers of Wordpress. It is a simple, yet effective software package that runs a forum. It is faster and less bloated than phpBB and works on many of the same principles of Wordpress. Top that off with a simple integration of logins between the 2 and I was there! I converted this main forum over and will never look back.

Being the community junkie that I am, I found myself posting a considerable amount on the support forums for bbPress and came to the conclusion that if I spend a great deal of time here, I might as well try and help to the best of my ability with the necessary tools. I requested forum Moderator status from the developers and they made me one today!

I thank both Matt and Micheal very much for this position and will do my best to make the community better! The users are great and the support level is the highest I have ever seen with both bbPress and Wordpress. That is a bigger compliment than you might think! Believe me, I have seen most of the communities…

bbPress is located at http://bbpress.org. If you don’t have it and want a forum, check it out. If you have trouble with getting it going, I imagine I will see you in the forums to solve all your problems!
