WTF? US Beats Telus?

Readers of this blog realize early on that I have been looking for a reason to bitch about Telus to start being competitive. Being an avid traveler in North America, it is a constant battle to find a plan that covers you everywhere.

I often thought it might be, but recently found out it is much cheaper to have a US phone with North American roaming in Canada then to have a phone in Canada. The following are astonishing to me……

Telus (Canadian)

• Talk North America 75 - 250 Minutes - $75
• Talk North America 100 - 400 Minutes - $100
• Talk North America 150 - 700 Minutes - $150
• Talk North America 400 - 1600 Minutes - $300

Alltel (US)

• North American Freedom - 450 Minutes - $60
• North American Freedom - 900 Minutes - $80
• North American Freedom - 1350 Minutes - $100
• North American Freedom - 2500 Minutes - $150

Verizon (US)

• America Choice With Canada - 450 Minutes - $60
• America Choice With Canada - 900 Minutes - $80
• America Choice With Canada - 1350 Minutes - $100
• America Choice With Canada- 4000 Minutes - $180

Those are US prices on the plans, yes, but remember with a par dollar they are also the same price in Canada. This my friends is a joke that US companies can use our networks cheaper than we can…..

Canadian Dollar Hits Par

Obviously no one wants to buy page 1 stories, but the Canadian dollar hit a remarkable level this morning by achieving parity with the US dollar. This is a great thing as the buying power of Canadians around the world is now massive. The manufacturing and export sectors have some tough times ahead, but margin players just need to adjust.

I have been following the dollar as it relates everyday to every decision that I make and wanted to share this amazing milestone! The dollar hit 100.09 as the high today against the US dollar and is currently just a shy under!

Where we go from here is unknown to everyone, but the troubles with the US economy and relative strength of Canada could make and interesting ride forward!
