Domain Registrar Issues

It has always amazed me that registering a domain could be so easy at the time of registration and then such a pain in the ass after you have it registered and want to move it. I have friends that say the same thing about marriage, but that is another rant. Once a domain is into one registrar, it can be painful to move it. Let me explain this out for you all…..
For the most part, I register my domains with easyhosting.ca since it was the first place I ever registered a domain name. This led me to register more domains with them and then combine them into one place for easy administration. The problem lies in the past couple of months where they are having an issue with my IP address versus the country I am in registering the domain. It wasn’t working to register some domains that I wanted at the time, so I used another registrar company and registered one with wordpress.com.
The other company was not too bad, but the fact that they only deal through email at their convenience is a pain for me. Even the fact that the requests to change the DNS name servers wouldn’t work just made me mad. I waited exactly 61 days (60 is the minimum time) and am in the process of getting them over to easyhosting.ca to add them to my already huge domain account.
The wordpress.com domain is also being moved over, but I didn’t have a problem with them at all since I want the domain for a wordpress.com blog anyways. Just to keep it simple though, I moved it over to easyhosting as well so that all 11 of my domains are in one place to administer.
The process of moving from one registrar to another is really a pain in the ass though. If the domain is a .ca it is a little faster, but .net and .com domains require the AUTH code from the original registrar. Should be a simple thing, but when your registrar only returns messages when they get around to it, it can be a slow painful process when you want them moved ASAP.
So the conclusion? Register your domains in one place. If that means all with wordpress.com then do that. If it is all with a company like easyhosting.ca, do that. Really, just having them in one place with someone you know and trust is the best solution.
That can be said about more than domains as well.

I was really excited when the Sandbox competition was on and I came across a great theme in Diurnal! It is an amazing theme that changes the header with the time of day! I came across this particular theme after doing some quick searching on Adam’s site and then came across a link to a post releasing this theme for wordpress.com users by that girl again. This is the theme that I came across and started using it immediately!

It really is a great theme and I thank everyone involved for putting it up and a special thanks to the author of the theme! Great stuff!
My URL’s Are Screwy

I have managed to crash my bluehost box a couple of times now and since they are not happy with me, I will just do my testing there and quit screwing up my blog. So, until the domains go through the DNS changes again, my blog will just be showing trent.wordpress.com. After a day or so, this will be fixed!
Thanks for the patience!
Wordpress Page Of Flickr

I spoke a couple of days ago about getting Gallery 2 running in integration with one of my sites! It would now be extremely useful to integrate with the gallery that I am actually using for my major album, Flickr! After some diligent searching for flickr plugins that integrate nicely with Wordpress, I came across two (2) clear winners from user feedback:
While I was more interested in taking the Flickr Photo Album out for a ride, it was not playing well with the fact that I have a couple of albums with almost 2,000 photos in them. It chokes on 500. It also wasn’t playing well with the code I changed to get some pagination, so it would just load and load until the page showed up or it killed my database connection. Nothing to great about that I am afraid. The plugin itself would be 100% perfect if I could just get it working with my larger albums. Making the albums smaller would be a pain and I really can’t do it without huge trouble.
That left me with the FAlbum, but it for whatever reason works for the most part, but doesn’t work will all my images. For whatever reason, some images and pagination doesn’t show any results. An unsatisfactory result. It also is pretty neat and actually does show the majority of results, but not everything. C’est la vie!
So where does that leave me? I have to admit that unless I can get a couple of problems worked out, visitors must visit flickr to view my photos. I doubt that matters to anyone but me ![]()
Da Vinci’s “Last Supper” Online in HD

The Associated Press
MILAN, Italy — Can’t get to Milan to see Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpiece “The Last Supper?”
As of Saturday, all you need is an Internet connection. Officials put online an image of the “Last Supper” at 16 billion pixels — 1,600 times stronger than the images taken with the typical 10 million pixel digital camera.
The high resolution will allow experts to examine details of the 15th century wall painting that they otherwise could not — including traces of drawings Leonardo put down before painting.
The painting is available for view online at http://www.haltadefinizione.com/en/ if you are adventurous!
Wordpress.com Admin Bar Love

So you were blogging over at wordpress.com and decided to move over to another host and try blogging the harder way. Now you go to your site and have all the fun of getting used to having to edit, upload and change things. After some time, you will find that you have the site looking the way you want after uploading and customizing several different themes and all the goodies you need in the sidebar.
But something is missing…….
I can tell you what is always is for me. The wordpress.com admin bar is a really wild option because it gives you some quick links to your dashboard and other cool places along with a quick link to creating posts and pages. After working with it all the time, you do miss it.
So what is the solution? Go back to wordpress.com of course! If that isn’t an option, check out a couple of substitutes that I have found. I prefer the Oceia bar! There is also Admin Bar!
If you know of any others, please do post them into the comments!
